If that were the true reason then it would be entirely reasonable.
But its not. Its the luvvies at the Beeb trying be PC. |
do you have any actual proof of that?? and frankly does it matter?? it's a TV programme ffs.

I didn't mention any reason, only that it is entirely possible within the fictional universe they created.

1. Yes, you only have to look back over the last couple of years with the luvvies taking about it being 'about time a woman got the role'.
2. Not at all but it doesnt alter the point. Luvvies trying to tun male roles into female roles because the male role is popular and they aren't getting enough of the success, so lets turn it into a female 'because its her turn'.
You know very well that if someone took a strong female character and turned it into a male, the luvvies would flip out. Mr Marple maybe ?

You may be over-thinking things a tad Graham (or perhaps are spending too much time behind the sofa hiding from the luvvies, who I assume are some new Dr Who villain?).
So what if they switch a traditionally male role to female, or vice versa, or gender neutral. It would make for some refreshing storytelling from a different angle.

Then write another story - don't take over another story because its successful and you want to leech off it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the main reason they made the change was to trigger the anti-PC broflake brigade - and it seems to have worked

FOR - I think GO's tagline sums it up
"Arguing with engineers is like wrestling in mud with a pig - after a while you realise they like it"
different folks, different strokes.
and after all. it's fantasy, not real life

Nah, be better to go back to the good old days before Shakespeare was corrupted by writing it down and boys played women.

Quote: | BBC One, Doctor Who casting announcement, 16 July 2017
BBC Logo
Complaint:
Some viewers contacted us unhappy that Jodie Whittaker has been cast as the new Doctor.
Response:
Since the first Doctor regenerated back in 1966, the concept of the Doctor as a constantly evolving being has been central to the programme. The continual input of fresh ideas and new voices across the cast and the writing and production teams has been key to the longevity of the series.
The Doctor is an alien from the planet Gallifrey and it has been established in the show that Time Lords can switch gender.
As the Controller of BBC Drama has said, Jodie is not just a talented actor but she has a bold and brilliant vision for her Doctor. She aced it in her audition both technically and with the powerful female life force she brings to the role. She is destined to be an utterly iconic Doctor.
We hope viewers will enjoy what we have in store for the continuation of the story.

Quote: | DOCTOR Who fans are furious that the latest incarnation of the character is from Yorkshire.
New Doctor Who Jodie Whittaker has angered fans with her accent and her Tardis that looks like a rain-soaked terraced house.
Fan Nathan Muir said: “No-one from Yorkshire can convincingly play an alien from a civilisation far more advanced than our own, or even equally as advanced. They haven’t even heard of Uber, except in Leeds where they think it’s a type of gravy.
“Heartbeat. Emmerdale. Doctor Who. Is it just me, or does one of those not fit with the others?”
However fan Donna Sheridan said: “It’s so refreshing to see Yorkshires being represented on television, but why isn’t her assistant a ferret?
“A clear-cut case of the BBC’s anti-mustelid bias.” |

Apparently nowadays, as well as female doctors, men can be nurses too. Political correctness gone mad.
