I have gone a bit mad on the giving up front (Just call me Lionel). Anyway, the plan is to stick with it until Easter

1. Alcohol, no big deal as I am not a big drinker, although my alcohol consumption did increase since the end of the season.

2. Processed sugar, doing this in sympathy with wife and daughter - basically no shop bought cakes, but home baking is fine if made with Honey, maple syrup and dried fruits

3. Meat, I have done this for the past couple of years

What would I struggle to give up... Fruit. My daughter is trying a low FODMAP diet, but I just couldn't live with the restrictions on some fruit

December 29th 2013. Finally admitted to myself that alcohol was a problem.

One was never enough and two was too many. I'll not go into any more detail, however, that was the day of my last drink. I am a much better person for it.

Dry January is tough, it takes your body a while to stop craving the sugar and it takes the mind at least a month to get out of the habit.

Good luck to everyone giving it a go.

ps Crisps and biscuits, now there's my current addiction and reason for being 6kg heavier than I should.

eggs and yeast... (un)fortunattely I found that I have a sensitivity to both of those foods, hence I need to cut them off completely for a while to allow for the healing process. It's a good thing to do and will help me tremendously in training and health in general, but not easy... I do love my eggs for breakfast and saying no to pretty much all baked goods is going to test my endurance more than anything so far. Wish me luck.

I had giardia a couple of years ago, and am getting more and more intolerent to alcohol (except gin, yay gin), dairy, grains and caffeine.

So far failing miserably in cutting out, but need to cut back at least.

Maybe I shouldn't bother trying to reduce my caffeine intake:

4th paragraph ;

"What the research shows is a correlation, not a causal connection"

From what I've seen in my limited research into it, it is one of the more common post-giardia issues. For me, the type of alcohol I consume does make a difference to me. Lager/ale leads to gastro distress and lethargy for a number of days, wines/champagnes massively disrupt sleep patterns (this is really curious as the giardia used to wake me up around 2am, and I'm finding the wine gets me up around the same time).

Interesting - my wife had a dose of giardia from holiday and a year later devleoped an alcohol allergy, particularly with champagne. Forced her to give up drinking completely.
