Sorry, was this an Outlaw thread? |
Sorry yes, we can resume a chat about goose sh!te now. |
Goose sh1t? Ahh, reminds me of the Falklands |
The first year of Outlaw there was goose sh1t everywhere and these huge rafts of weeds in the water that you had to turtle paddle over. It was bad that swimmers ahead were shouting 'WEEDS' so others behind would know.
On the plus side, navigation was bloody easy!

Water was a bit funky last year, but I believe that was one of the better ones. Some people were complaining about their stomachs after the swim - although that could have been the 20 gels they consumed

Is it still as slippery as hell on those boat ramps? One guy's race was over before it started in 2010, he slipped over and cut his head open in a bad way.

Don't remember it being slippery; I only remember looking at my watch and thinking 61:00 was 1 min behind schedule

I mean on the way in, not out. (assuming they still do the 4 x corral thing?) Used to be slippery as f**k getting in. Lots of folks went in sliding on their bums.

I just jumped-in off the pontoon, as did many others; yes they did the corral thing, I guess the ramp was to one side then, away from the sub-60 pen.

Must be different now. There were no pontoons at all, just 4 concrete ramps, all the same, that made each corral with the fastest on the left. Everyone did the same thing but you were either over to the left or more to right, depending on pace.

Yep, there are a series of big plastic pontoons jutting out, which effectively create pens for the swim groups. A much less glamorous version of the IM Austria swim in the good old days!

The last few km's of the bike course are what put me off coming back, well that and the thought of running around that infernal lake again. When I did it back in 2015 when it was really yet there were a few points where there were lots of riders on the deck, in particular the house driveway with the cattle grid and the ramp back down into the transition area which is steep and with a 90degree turn over a speed bump (IIRC).
Thinking about it for 2019 but haven't decided yet

I can get an Outlaw tattoo now, so why would I go back.
So far I can get Mdot, Challenge, Outlaw & 226. What other tats do I need, Norseman or Celtman (would that come under X-Tri?) Others?
It's all about showing you're brand savvy.

I don't bother with tattoos, I have a back that's been opened up 6 times and a whacking great scar on my leg and shoulder.
Chicks dig it

Is that the full set then?

There seems to have been a bit of confusion around the entry process!
I can’t recall any weeds in Year 1, or any slippery ramps?
That end bit near the Hall is awful, but I’d recce’d it numerous times leading up to the event, so was prepared for it.
Is the swim now laps and an Aussie exit?
It was always 1.8km out, 1.8km back.
That run course is soul destroying. Running around that lake still gives me nightmares.

If you remember weeds then you weren’t at 2010, or were drunk Actually it wasn’t weeds, it was grass, they’d done a ton of grass cutting all around the lake and masses of it had gone into the lake, couple with some reed cutting at the edge, meant this caused big rafts of it. Was worse on the way out.
The slippery ramps were the concrete entry to each pen.
