It was fun. Grinding up Birdy Brow for ten minutes in a 42/23 at 300W, 55rpm!
My wedding band came off in the swim, so I had to dive down to retrieve that. Then my noseclip came off and I snapped it trying to get it back on.
Went through the first 100 in 1:19, a bit annoyed to get out in 6:11.
Took a while to run to T1, 28th swim spilt.
T1 piece of pie, 7th quickest, Making up 14 places
Bike was hillyAF. Not great at descending anyhow, on a TT bike, not a chance.
Never has been my strong point, 20th split. Lost three places.
T2 got a shout out for how rapid I was, 3rd split. No places made up.
Run was billed as flat. WAS IT F***. Not hilly, just undulating and hard and hot. Managed to muster the 9th best split at 4:04/km for the and drag myself into 12th overall.
Decent comeback race. |

Cheers JeffB.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I’d recommend that as a great Sprint+ race.
Scenery was stunning.

As predicted a lower volume last week (7h30ish) which I needed. Went out early doors yesterday and had a good ride, averaging much better power numbers than even a few weeks back; then a 4k run afterwards. What I've noticed in particular, is that my body is now used to the aero position again; I dropped the tilt on my extensions from 15 to 10 degrees.
Pretty nippy before 7 yesterday, so not in summer kit like those out a couple of hours later.

Bit of a weird couple of weeks for me.
Off the back of my ill fated race, i took a good few days to recover.
So 2 x runs (week before last) both around 10km. First one super easy, and was ok. 2nd one had a few hills and my body just couldn't cope. Still ill then.
Last week i knew i'd barely get out due to the week off work, Easter, travelling home to Wales to visit family etc. So a good excuse to let the body rest and hopefully clear the weird illness. Though it was coupled up with way too much food, beer and choc!!
Did a track session on the Weds, and that went ok. Numbers weren't great, and a little bit of lethargy in the legs still.
Then decided to go for my first Parkrun of the year on Sat as it was nice weather. Wasn't expecitng much having barely run for 3 weeks, but somehow came out with a deecnt 17.35. Pretty well paced and executed as well - didn't fade as badly as expected on the back half into a mild headwind.
Planinng on getting into egular trackwork and more intensity now for the next couple of months, with no real plans other than getting back under 17 for the 5km, topped up with a couple of planned long distance adventures!

Well done at Clitheroe Poet, and brave attempt at OWS!
Similar to Jorgan for me - planned recovery week coinciding with big week at work so only 6 hours, but it was off the back of 4 good weeks all at 12-13 quality hours. Definitely needed the break, but feeling refreshed and looking forward to getting back into it again.

Sounds like you had an excellent race. Its nice to have a good early season race, then you can see how effective your winter training has gone

Cheers folks!
Yes, I unexpectedly REALLY enjoyed myself.
That bike course was brutal and beautiful.
just need to get a less attention seeking trisuit now (used by GB one from 2013, being the only one I own)
Going to Huub in Derby on Wednesday...

My job got "restructured", luckily I moved into a new role, managing a couple of large projects..... unfortunately this is impacting my training as lunch breaks (run breaks) are erratic, and my days are much longer, meaning that I miss swim sessions. I am compensating a bit by cycling into work more often, and taking longer rides home (70km rather than 35km regular ride home).
I really need to see how I can fit in more swim and run time

Losing flexibility/autonomy at work always has an impact, especially if swim sessions are strictly timetabled; my commiserations! Doubly, it also means I could be up the road in a much faster bike pack in Hamburg
So I have the 4% in the post, a BS Helix on loan, just need to get a faster skinsuit sorted now, and Bob's your uncle...free speed.
