So, I'm hammering down my gearing in preparation for the extreme X in May.
I can't seem to find anything anywhere - is it possible to go sub-34T on the front in a normal 110BCD 5-bolt setup?
I've been looking at various CX chainrings but can't see to find anything.

I looked at this last year, you can run a 33 tooth on 110 bcd, but couldn't find anything smaller
Best option is the cassette, you can run an 11-36 SRAM PG1170 cassette with the current R8000 Ultegra derailleur or with the older R5800 105 GS derailleur

Praxis Gravel bike, people are getting them for IMUK...
FSA do one too for Adventure Bikes.
90BCD?
Im on 34x30 ...for now

Hmm.. thought so. Been reading some more and it's basically not possible due to 110 being, well, 110. The circumference is not enough to go smaller than 33 which Praxis seems to make.
I'm on Di2 hence only possible to go 34 on the rear (new Di2 can do 34, old can't). And since I have a P2M with 110bcd and 5-bolt I was hoping not to have to change that.
For mechanical you can get the Wolftooth Lindarets adapter allowing road shifter (or at least Ultegra) and MTB rear mech. Then 34x42 is possible.
Not sure I can be bothered to go 33x34 from 34x34.

Several wheelsets and love Sram red and my original di2 is still going strong....
How much elevation in your race?
The jump from 34x28 to 34x30 made a big difference on steep climbs, that and a very light bike i guess.

Pan flat....honest....
Places left.... You and Matt would be looking at 5 hour bike splits for sure......
The gravel bike chainsets, not the full machine, that said.....
The "average" bike time will be slow bordering on silly slow.
Cut offs staying the same....?!

That might actually work and certainly worth a punt. My Di2 is set up for sequential shifting so the derailleur never gets near max extension anyway.
34x40 would be brilliant. Wonder if I need a longer chain, might do actually.
Mungo - it's the extreme X in May I'm worried about. 16 climbs above 20%, 6 of them hits 25%+ and 4 hits 33%. Total elevation around 5,000m and I need to save the legs for the fell marathon afterwards. Anything to get lower gears and spin up is worth it.

I saw the elevation, and it is impressive. I have a 34x36 on my gravel bike that I use for a local climb, there is one section at 23% for 1.5km which is manageable, but grinding, much easier on my XC Mountain bike with 32x40.
