I heard via the OSS that there will be more open water swimming at Rutalnd Water this season i.e. not just race events.
Anglian Water put me on to inspire2tri who have been authorised to organise such swimming:
http://inspire2tri.com/programmes/open-water-swimming-2/open-water-swimming-events-in-rutland-water
Not sure yet if this will only be for coached sessions but the link above says more news is due soon.
I have no connection to inspire2tri but would welcome the opportunity to swim at Rutland Water.

We are very pleased to announce that our new Open Water training venue will be open from Sat 2nd June (0730-0930).
We will be open to adult and junior triathletes and open water swimmers of all abilities. Come and check out our lake with great water quality and facilities and the chance to trial our range of wetsuits to ensure you get the right suit for you.
Location: Six Hills Lake, Six Hills Road, Six Hills, Leicestershire, LE14 3PR
Opening Times: Saturdays 0730-0930 (starting 2nd June), Tuesdays 1800-2000 (starting 12th June)
Price: Adults £4, Juniors £2
Registration: Before attending please register online, you can register at the venue but this will take longer and may result in you having to wait to swim. You can register online via our website, the link to the OW venue page is http://www.racetime-events.co.uk/?page_id=498.
By registering for the Open Water membership you are also registered to the Racetime Triathlon Club. This allows you to benefit from the offers from our sponsors and enter races under the team name Racetime Events if you wish. This does not affect you if you are already registered and race for another club.
Venue Facilities:
Changing room and showers for both male and female swimmers.
Food and drinks available.
The swim loop is approx 600m around an island.
Qualified lifeguard on duty at all times with safety craft on standby.

Looking for somewhere in the Leamington/Warwick area.
I know about Market Bosworth and Ragley Hall but wondering whether there are any others in the area or any known spots (rivers, Draycote water, secret venues)?
Or if not, if there are a group who would look to do something?

Just spoke to someone at Ellerton Park in N Yorks, as I'm working in that area a few weeks from now. It seems I can basically turn up anytime for a swim for £3.50
- am I missing something or is it as good as it seems?

Had first OW of the year at Manley near Chester last night. 11 degC, felt bloody freezing. After about 1km that was enough |
Im going to try manley mere this week. Salthouse dock in liverpool has too much oil on the surface. Either from the water bus, or from burnt out ford escorts at the bottom.

Well I went last Thurs and had a great swim. Bit rough and ready with no safety boats, but plenty of other swimmers so not an issue.
Not sure if I was going the wrong way around the course or not?

Bit further West but i went to Upton Warren just off Junction 5 of the M5 this weekend, good facilities. £4 to swim, 7-9am on Saturdays.
Also Top Barn Activity Centre about 15 Minutes further on in the Worcester area, again £4 and decent facilities. You can stand up anywhere in the lake at this which made it a good option for beginners or just less confident swimmers.
Hope this helps!

Hello, Likewise I'll also be interested in locations around the Coventry/lemmington/Warwick area?

i've took part in a couple of the swims at Rutland Water with inspire2rti, the only way Anglia Water will let them use it to swim is if they treat it like a race and have marshals on the water for safety reasons. they're hoping now they've had a few sessions next year they'll be able to open it up for a regular early morning weekend swims.
