Think they changed the course this year to laps, but it was due tova big storm hitting causeing large waves at the top end.

Dont know if it will be retained or reverted back to original...hopefully the latter

Word.

Instead of "two final victory laps soaking up the support" it just extends the suffering at the worst time.

FatPom - I was there in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Swam an hour from the sub60 pen each year.
Definitely no weeds where I was (on someone's feet) Wink

Jorgan - The lake is ~5km perimeter.

It's odd but I have the total opposite experience!

I like the lake, the simple monotony lets me drift off and forget the misery. I would be happy if the whole race was around the lake!

Likewise the out and back is torture! It feels much harder to focus and maintain a rhythm. and that ~#*$ mini lap on the other side of the River is just appalling, think I quit both times around there!

Once I was back to my lakeside sanctuary I was fine and the Final lap was Celebratory!

Funny how we experience the same thing so differently

You need to enter Monotonyman aka an Ultra Triathlon on a lap course.

You see this is where I am odd, I am not normally like that!

Lapped swim or bike course's I hate, and same with running races or even training runs. I never do laps of anything and find out and back annoying as they are monotonous.

Even If I drive somewhere I always drive back a different way just to get a change of scene.

Yet in Outlaw, for some reason, I enjoy the lake, I guess it's just things are so bad I need to be somewhere else and the lake gives that ability to drift away.

It's the ease of it too, the out and back is a pain in the ass, twists and turns hills, cobbles, uneven surfaces, other people. The lake it's just a grass track (yes I copy TC and run on the grass), I can see the aid station, just run to it, rinse and repeat.

I find it odd it doesn't bother me, but it never has.

Best Iron distance run I've done (literally) was IM Regensburg. Four proper loops, no out & backs; parks, city centre, river banks. The trouble even with Ironman events now, is they just get lazy and the laps are effectively out & backs on the same road/path.

I can definitely recommend the Wales run course, Its 4 laps but those 4 laps have a bit of everything & give you a LOT of support.

Sure it is not flat but the hills are not as tough as I imagined, you have basically got a 2 mile climb at the beginning of each lap but it's shallow enough that you can recover on the descents without having to put any real effort in. Psychologically I hound it quite nice, you have a 2 mile effort at the beginning of easy lap then it's easy street Smile

Ok maybe not so easy but you know what I mean. The last 6 miles of any mara are the worst and if you do the hill on the final lap ok then you know you are nearly home.

I've found the worst hills on the run are the hair-pin at New Hedges where you go to get the band and the top turn around. A couple of those little f**kers in town can sap your energy as they come after a 90deg turn.

I suspect what happened was that you swam to the left of it from the sub 60. I was in the third pen along, so was probably still working up the diagonal.
