Thanks for signing that nice shiny new 3 year contract G ... oh by the way, yeah, the sponsors are pulling the plug at the end of the year. Sorry about that.

could be in the best interest for the big races like the TdF, Sky's level of resources and quality of the team makes it very difficult for other teams to compete

I suspect that they will find another sponsor, however, I doubt that it will have the level of funding that sky currently provides

It would be interesting to see how they got on with a budget similar to the other teams like Movistar, Trek, Quickstep, etc.

Mclaren has also announced that it is taking a 50% stake in Bahrain Merida team

Hopefully a bit a shake up in the teams will bring some changes

I would have thought it places G in a difficult position - I assume he'll have negotiated a better contract, not just in terms of support from the team, but financially. Will that contract be possible to honour without another sponsor of the Sky's magnitude.

I know it's not all about the money, but it'd be pretty galling win the TdF and take a big pay cut. And then all that said, if there were anyone out there who would shrug it off, I think it would be G.

Do you mean because they can't compete or that their budget is too low?

I think he means Movistar have a good budget; they have Quintana, Valverde & Landa!

That is what I meant. Movistar are the outlier of those three.

From a quick google their budget looks fairly mid-table. I was surprised how many teams spend more myself.
