Looks like I have a provisional place, two weeks after IMUK. Anyone else in for this sportive or whatever the hell its meant to be?
I would be glad to be supporting the imprisonment of the Surrey folk "in their own homes!".
Also, any chance of getting a solid time trial out of it, or is it all faffing about at corners and choke points?

I was in a very early wave last year, and there were no hold ups because of crowding at all. Went through in about 4:45 which is quicker than I'd ever normally be able to do a route like that. Home for lunch after riding back to Kingston from the finish. Later waves were stationary for a lot of time, so it really depends.
However there was some scary riding - some people will seemingly do almost anything to keep the wheel in front, you need to keep your wits about you.

I'm in for the 4th time this year. I've got a place 3 times via the British Cycling club competition and this time round it was 5th time lucky in the ballot.
As the others have said, a lot depends on your start time, which I think is determined by your estimated time on your entry. In 2015 one of my team mates made the mistake of estimating 5 hours and we ended up with a start time of 6:40ish. At that time we'd missed all the "fast" people and we were the idiots who were riding like a TTT and pulling along a load of free loaders  . There was a bit of bunching on the hills, but generally it was fine and the fully closed roads mean that you can really use every mm of the road and ride the shortest line all the time.
Obviously if you are going off much later than 7:00 then you probably are going to get held up in the crowds, especially on the steeper climbs.
As far as a good TT effort, just remember that TT bikes and clip-on tri bars are banned from the event, even if you wanted to tri to ride as an individual TT. That certainly won't mean you can't do a very fast time if you get some good wheels to follow. I think I ended up with a 4:21 in 2015 and I did the 41km in the first hour and 42km in the last hour

Entry system sucks.
I have seriously entered the ballot every year since this thing started (year after the Olympics I think) and not a whiff of a place.

Yup, I was 5th time lucky this time round. If I'd been rejected again, I don't think I would have bothered with the ballot next time round.
Mathematically, if the ballot was completely random I reckon you'd have less than a 1-in-5 chance of getting in. Unfortunately, the ballot doesn't seem to be random! If you are a London-based MAMIL then the odds of getting in seem to be very long. If you are a woman, apparently less so. There definitely seems to be some demographic engineering built into the ballot.
It's a great event and I've loved it the 3 times I've got a place via the BC club competition, but I don't want the hassle of chasing sponsorship for a charity place when completing the ride isn't that much of a challenge for me.

Hmm, maybe I'll take the place then.
Not sure what I'd do for 100 miles on this course, I've had buddies do just over 5 hrs "moving time"...which makes it sound like they stop for tea and cake or something.
I'll estimate 4.5 hrs to get an early slot then get in everyones way

the longer you are, the longer the poor people of london and surrey have to sit indoors and talk to each other...something they are completely unfamiliar with and ill equipped to do...

Maybe that's the statistic that it's ten times over subscribed.
In such cases, you're lucky to get in after five events

Couldn't find a thread for this year...
Did it yesterday...what a great event...despite the weather..absolutely loved hauling through London in a huge peleton...I'll certainly never do a 100 as quick again...4:19!!!
Also did the FreeCycle on Saturday with the boy, loved that too. It was busy and stop/start but brilliant riding through central London and doing some sightseeing
