10 hours is a lot though. We throw these figures around like they are normal, but it's nearly an hour and a half of exercise per day. Are you working too?

Yes I am working, I get the 10 hours in by commuting to work on the bike twice a week, it is about an 80km 2.5 hour round trip, add on a 3 hour club ride on Saturday, a couple of evening swim sessions and a couple of runs at lunch time

The last 10 days or so I have been feeling much better

Have had about 2 months off swim/bike and about a month off of running (was training for the Chelmsford marathon but my gluet had other ideas)

Was about 5-7 seconds slower per 100m in the pool yesterday - did 10 off 2:00 and that was a struggle

Did a 45 minute spin on the turbo at about 65-70% which seemed like forever.

Went for a gentle run this morning and all of my legs just ached

I think the older you get, the harder it is to come back after a lay-off. I would say the hardest is swimming, if you're an Adult-Onset Swimmer (AOS).

Please don't tell me that. I'm about to start swimming again after a 4month lay off, my longest gap in about 6 years. Sad
