...in accessibility, not noise...

So, I gave away all my vinyl to a collector about 10 years ago...and many of the CDs are now scratched or missing...

I would like a music solution that doesn't cost the earth because it will probably only be active on rare Sat eves and on Sunday aft....but with easy access to playlists and/or also playable in the car as we detour around the French riots and up to the lakes...

Access to podcasts also worth considering...

The business is Apple based which may or may not be worth factoring in...

i am thus open to suggestions, please for a family xmas present...

Spotify

£9.99 a month isn't bad. create your own playlists. download up to 10000 songs per device. access to most new releases. runs on any platform

Spotify and Amazon Music.

You normally get 3 months free on each. (or 99p or something)

By the time one offer has expired you are normally offered another in the other,

Repeat

Very similar platforms but Spotify is a touch better

also if it's for a family Xmas present you can have a Spotify Family account for £14.99 a month - up to 5 users, each withe their own individual account and downloads - only downside is that all 5 need to be at the same address so no good for those who's kids have flown

Amazon, then spotify, then amazon, then spotify, now back on amazon. One thing to remember is your favourite album may suddenly disappear from the service you use. bloody annoying. I have no preference but i cancel and get a new cheaper deal with other for a bit which is why ive swapped. amazon is 7.99 a month. (was 99p for 3 months when i last swapped back)

Have tried both Spotify and Amazon Music, and have come back to Spotify as I find the interface and recommendations much better (Amazon would recommend other albums by the same band, whereas Spotify would be more broad from the genre of music). You can also choose which quality of music on Spotify - not sure about Amazon.

If you're Prime, you do get the service for £2 cheaper than Spotify though.

Spotify offline is great, didn't try Amazon offline so can't comment.

Both work pretty seamlessly with Sonos for in house streaming (other brands of speaker are available).

I've not tried TIDAL, but that's mainly because I think Kanye is a twunt, and I wouldn't want to give him any of my money.

I tried it as my Raumfeld wifi speaker came with a free 3 month subscription - great sound as it's hifi quality streaming but frankly the choice of music wasn't as great as Spotify and as said, Kanye is a twunt so no money from me either.

you won't have to look far with Spotify, it seems to be the de facto choice built into most platforms these days.

for me, I have a chromecast enabled wifi speaker in one room, plus chromecast audio linked via a mini-amp to some Ruark legacy speakers so using Google Mini devices I can sync between rooms. I still have some old vinyl and a deck, and loads of CDs but nothing to play them on... Rolling Eyes

Spotify - a real game changer for me - lead me to lots of new music I'd 'missed' first time round through genre playlists and then following up any particular track that hits the spot.

All for the price of 1 CD per month.

Not tried any others to be fair....no reason to (so far).

In our house we have a couple of Google 'Homes' and Chromecast attached to TV's with decent (external) speakers.

As I discovered, the real benefit of Chromecast is that by using Google Home, you get access to Spotify Premium for..... free.

For some reason if you ask Google Home to play something itself from Spotify it advises you need to be a Spotify Premium member to select specific music. But then ask it to play on the Chromecast-connected device and... hey presto.

Hope this loophole stays open, saved me a small fortune.
