I was too initially, but then I thought about it and to those who aren't cycling geeks track cycling generally gets followed once every four years. Loads of people out there will remember Laura Trott's superb performance - but would not have the foggiest that she married Jason Kenny and now has taken his surname. Plus she is a cyclist - and we must not forget that outside of the olympics and the TDF cyclists are all twats who get in the way of motorists intentionally and jump red lights Rolling Eyes

The ones who did well are generally household names - Murry is known by everyone and is quite a devisive figure - but phenominally well known none the less - his supporters will far outweigh his critics. The Brownlees are well known - the Mexico finish was on just about every mainstream news source going - friends on social media who are not interested in triathlon usually were sharing that footage. Nick Skelton is an outlier - I saw his name mentioned and had to remember who he was - oldest medal winner, horse dancing, I'm guessing I am in hte minority there as he obviosuly had a huge amount of support.

Farah won't win in my opinion, all of the concerns about Nike Oregon Project, Alberto Salazar and his other dubious acquaintences that he says he doesnt know and is then pictured with will all lead to questions being asked - rightly or wrongly.

Nick Skelton is a show jumper and as his age would suggest, has been around for years. Equestrian sports generally seem to do quite well in SPOTY, probably because their appeal goes beyond the usual sports fans. The lady in 5th place is a Paralympic dressager, so that's 2 horsey people in the top 5.

I think Laura Kenny probably suffered from the fact that there were 4 cyclists in the 16 nominees, so the "cycling" vote was split. If Chris Froome had been on the list she'd have been even further down and he would have been nowhere near the top 3. Even if she'd just picked up her husband's votes she'd have been in the top 5 Wink

You are forgetting how this tv voting game works. I bet 99% of the people who voted for Jason also voted for Laura. Well done AB, but would he have even made the list if Johnny had won in Mexico with no drama? Apparently Frodeno was 2nd in Germany's version as well, so trim getting some recognition.

I think Mo suffered from not being there, would be perceived as not wanting is - as we all know track runners just spend the winter on holiday. Tennis players on the other hand have to train and compete all year round, so they can be excused.

I think Murray gets a hard time about his personality. It's his voice more than what he actually says that is monotone. And in his early career he was a lot less guarded in his comments and the press had a field day twisting his quotes to make it sound like he was slagging people off. I think now he plays up to the perception and is actually pretty funny.

Mo will get it next year; home world athletics Champs in London is the main sporting game in town and if he gets the double there will probably be unassailable. Remember no Ennis-Hill, retired - and our actual running 'track' medals are fairly thin on the ground and it's not an Olympics with all the other sports to compete with.

A contender may come out of the Lions (Rugby) or Joshua if he puts Klistcko away in a classic fight and adds a couple more defences - but again both of those won't be terrestrial TV events like a home World Athletics champs.

He does! Never used an inhaler until he started working with Salazar, I guess he'd never been managing it well before as it was strangely around the time he got unbeatable.
