I am giving serious consideration to transferring my IMUK entry to Barcelona (if I get the job I've interviewed for for, which I find out tomorrow)

I know the UK course so well, it is horrible, dangerous to train on and will definitely be dangerous with 2500 people on. I'm not enjoying the training and will definitely not enjoy the race, even with a lot of local support.

I can get Friday/Monday flights for £171 inc bike. AirBNB will be cheap, car cheap also.

I know it is a bit of a pussy move but this is supposed to be fun, right?!

Is anyone else going out there?

There is a good chunk of that in the thought process too.

I've slogged it round Bolton twice and Wales once and I would do Wales again in a heartbeat. I am/was also looking forward to the Bolton run but the thought of the bike course just kills all the joy of the process for me.

£170 flight & bike
£50 car
£150 accommodation
In, race, out so not much to spend while there.

I could of course do both but at least have Barcalona to look forward to Shocked
Try getting the wife to sign that off Laughing

Just realised only Nirvana places left. It said it wasn't sold out on my mobile phone but laptop version saying sold out.

That means it will be a fortune for added fees and accommodation. Game over Sad

Everyone seems to have a huge downer on the new Bolton bike course.

How different is it to the old course (I did the old 3 lapper, and the 2 lapper with Hunter's). Wasn't a great bike course, but never got the bad press of the new from people who've tried it out.

Sad, it may kill the race if as bad as it sounds.

Which would open a slot for another full in England...

Blackp..... Wink

The dates are no good for me, unfortunately.

There is almost zero fun sections, all non-aero climbing or sketchy descents.
The old course was a tough, honest course that was a test. This is more like a challenge than a race if that makes sense. Great for TC and the likes who love the tough stuff but it is grim.
I know of 3-4 spots where I can guarantee there will be people pushing their bikes on lap 2.

I’m sh!tting myself training on the course with traffic flying past me. I’m ‘lucky’ I live on the course so know all the roads but I’d be surprised if you get many that do it this year do it again.

Personally I was looking forward to the run sooooo much but I think I’ll be exhausted by the time I get off the bike.

I’m whining a lot, some may think it is not so bad but for me it has ruined the race.

I originally thought people were being a bit OTT, but when I heard Brian Fogarty rinsing it on a podcast (and he previously beat all pro's to have the fastest bike split of anyway on the old course in 2017), then that made me realise there may be something to it.

He said very much the same as you - the fact it's just dangerous, and he also lives in the area.

Flat courses certainly play to my strength, not because I'm overly powerful but I can maintain a reasonable W/cda value to mask some of my weaknesses. But the other thing that appeals to me about them is the fear of 2500 other idiots taking me out (Barguil style on G) on a tricky descent.

Unfortunately I’m on holiday with my family when Hamburg is on. Also unfortunately I cannot transfer to Barcelona as ‘only Nirvana places left’

Looks like I’m stuck with Bolton.

TRO

Its very different.

Hunters is not on the new loop, nothing as steep, but the climbs or drags, go on for miles, literally, your up hill for three miles at one point only 3-8% and i managed it in the big ring last month, but it is really hard to get any sort of speed or momentum going.
The steepest gradients you actually go down, but there technical on awful roads,so your on the brakes all the time.. if it rains its going to be carnage.

Second time round if the winds blowing, its very very exposed, the average speeds will be very slow for most athletes.

Ive seen Foggy in action and he is a very confident handler at very fast speeds. His comments on the podcast with Marc Laithwaite say it all.

I know its not meant to be easy, but several "bigger" athletes who signed up for 5000 ft are not bringing there Hokas..or any trainers at all as they wont hit the cut offs on the new course.

Lots on the loop now a good few cant get sub 3 flat out for one jaunt round, after the swim, a second loop and a marathon to run......
Tough day coming.
