Just noticed on Strava, Joe Skipper posted a picture of a new Quintana Roo PRSix Disc TT bike. Did he switch sponsor from Ribble?

Who knows, he's not active on Twitter, as I just looked. Last pic of him on a bike was in early November on a Scott Plasma in wind tunnel! Is he more of an Insta person? No idea.

Haven't seen anything official about it, but have noticed that since being in Perth he's been training with Paul Newsome's squad (Swimsmooth) which is an exciting development I guess, would be great if he can keep closing the gap to the faster swimmers out there. Seems to be getting a decent block of training going, hopefully he has a good start to 2019!

If he has switched bikes, that's about 4 different ones in 4 years no?

Maybe someone has come in with some actual proper sponsorship £££ for him like he deserves, rather than just giving bikes or a bit of performance related.

He is a consistent performer now and one of the best in the world so should have regular sponsorship cash coming in. I suppose it depends on whether he is polished enough and media savvy enough for some brands.

I thought being active on social media was part of the job for a pro athlete these days. Potential sponsors don't just want you to get good results using their kit or wearing their logo. They expect you to create organic content and spread it to the wider world.

I don't think that's Joe's bag.

He is pretty active on insta. Has posted most days of 2019 about what he's doing in Perth. No obvious publicity of a new bike deal though.

Don't go on Insta brah. Period. Twitter barely registers on my radar, and FB is pretty banal.

How are marketers supposed to reach out to me? Rolling Eyes Very Happy

Don't worry, they don't even attempt to reach out to old technophobic gits. Wink

I believe the latest thinking from the marketers is that people don't respond that well to direct advertising and marketing. That's why companies are tapping in to "influencers" to spread the word. They don't necessarily want sponsored athletes to explicitly push their products, but they want them to feature in their content Rolling Eyes

If Joe is posting pictures that include his bike then people are probably noticing what he is using and discussing it, so the message is spreading organically Rolling Eyes

^^ I'm still pretty circumspect about any vloggers on You Tube. If we combine the 'cult of celebrity' with a potential to create a revenue stream via influencing using product placement, and it's hard not to be cynical.
