Yep,

For whatever reason I keep forgetting about this place, shame as there is much to learn.... so having completed the first, I went on later in the year to do the Bosworth sprint late September...... come 2018 and I did Southam sprint (pool based) Blenheim which went much faster and I am thinking of re-doing Bosworth again this year.

All good stuff, and next year I have been very foolish... I've signed up for the Long Course Weekend in Tenby with 1.2 mile swim, 112 bike and half marathon.... better get my training plan sorted eh!

It is addictive this thing isn't it!

See you around I hope!

I've only gone and done it!!

So, since posting the first post how many years ago on Sunday 4th June, I did a Sprint Triathlon at Blenheim!

My swim was slow and a mix of crawl and breast stroke, bike was actually good and done in 45 minutes, matching the average speed, the run slow due to my ripping a calf muscle 5 weeks ago and it being the first time to run and walk the distance....

But finally, after all the procrastination, all the hypothesis and worry, finally I can call myself, a TriAthlete!!!

Woo hoo....

So, never give in, however long, it can be done!!! So, gone and booked another now, hopefully can do some running before then and improve my over all time by a bit!!

Mad hare sportive - what have I done

well, thing is in November my boss said fancy doing a sportive, I've just signed up.... which was kind of a challenge.... so I said yes..... and signed up.....

It's on Sunday and 2 weeks ago I kind of realised how silly I had been, each week in January Ive been doing an extra lap round the reservoir, but suddenly realised how far away from target distance I would be..... so I increased, however....

I made 50 miles last week, it was a struggle, I did it round open roads, found some hills, some pretty decent ones I think, but when I finished I knew it was hard.... Sunday's jaunt is 70 miles, that is a big increase!

Unless the weather is shocking, I'll do my best, I have the whole day and not a morning, so I reckon I should be able to get it finished, even if it's not a blistering time.......

Now need to take that as an example to myself that the cycling is OK, its the swimming and running that need desperate improvement!!! But still swimming and getting better, will see how we get on..... running.... best start that shortly!

Oh and I've now lost 3 stone, another 2 would be great, and still on the dietary improvements and behaviour!!!

Surprise!

And that surprise is that I am still training for this ere event.... Yep, have managed to make progress too, especially on the swimming...... I can now do 100 metres front crawl!!! That may not sound like a huge distance and indeed it isn't but for someone who could not do 25 metres, I can do this distance towards the end of the coaching session having done lots of other things first. Amazingly my confidence is the big winner, the technique is improving and stamina too..... I need to find more time to swim.

Biking is going well too, now up to 34 miles at a pace of 15.5 average, I do a circuit around a reservoir, so I now need to ride on the open road, but hey, was only doing 10 miles in November....

So to the running, I have 3 pounds to shed before I meet the 3stone weight loss I am aiming for as an interim position....... I promised myself running would start in February..... so a good time to write the post as that is Wednesday and I will find time to start a slow jog at least this week!

So far then, on plan!

Catch you later,

All set then.... apart from the training, the ability.....

I did it, £94 quids plus the timer thingy on the medal, so just over £100 sobs and Sunday 4th June in the mixed wave......

I've got a colleague from work and his girlfriend joining me, someone probably from the Tri club and maybe one or two others.......

I've had an interrupted training week, dentist Monday retirement party Tuesday, and band practice on Wednesday. Was very very very tired yesterday so no training until tonight, took another minute off my bike times, so now a 20k circuit in 57 mins on the mob - First ride this year was 1-15 so happy with that, and hopefully out on the bike tomorrow.....

Slowly catchee monkey, just need to get a plan together now :)

Tomorrow the day

3rd time lucky, if I am right the Blenheim Triathlon places are released tomorrow and I shall be signing up for the 3rd time. What is different to this time, is that I have been and continue to go to swimming coaching sessions with the Rugby Tri Club. Ive learnt a lot in a short time and have really enjoyed the sessions. I am way way back on where I need to be however, I am now both swimming and biking. Today I took the road bike out for the first time in years, having had it serviced last week...... I bought a new shorter stem and could not believe how much more comfortable to ride it was....... enjoyed the ride despite having gigged last night and being pretty tired to start with!

So, 3rd time, it simply has to be!

Now to train my training.....

Well second week then and all still motivated and going! Must say knees are sore, but well you just have to live with some things, and no running yet!

However, I hit the 2 stone loss mark today which was very pleasing, its taken about 18 months but in fairness, only focused on the last 4 months, so down from 17 to 15, still 3 stone over but its a positive continuation.

I managed a different bike ride today, only 5k longer, but hey, its more time on the bike, tomorrow night will be the usual route.

What I need to do now of course is construct a training plan, it's good to get out there and "do" but I need to have some basic goals, else I won't be improving and building.......

Met a few of the Rugby Tri club folk and now have some new friends on FB which is really great stuff......

So progress is continuing, need to look at what events are around for the new year.......

What to aim for....

So 4 bike rides in, I improved by 24 seconds tonight....... so clearly just getting to the point of beginning to start training...... still an improvement. This is on a MTB speed average of 12.7mph on a 20k circuit, its got a few hills, some steep (well in my opinion at least lol)!!!

Tomorrow is swimming night, second session, looking forward to it in truth.

Now though I am going to start to have to work out what I need to aim for if I am going to finish sensibly. In truth, I don't care what time I do so long as I finish, but that doesn't give me an aiming point.

So at the tender young age of 52, aiming for an Olympic of 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run, what should I aim for.....

I know last few years back I could make the 20k on the bike in 55 minutes, but I think that could come down a bit.....

I have no idea of the swim time at all.....

And the run, I managed a 10k about 5 years ago in an hour and 6 minutes......

Obviously all the above were separate (except the swimming which i never did lol).

If I aim to make certain times, then I know I will be working hard to achieve those times, if when the events are knitted together it doesn't work out, at least I had an aiming point.....

Open to listen to suggestions!!!

Amazed

so today was my 3rd bike ride...... so my mindset seems its getting more motivated and the intentions are turning into actions.... today I knocked 4 minutes off the bike ride, so 9 minutes off since I restarted!! I even got the road bike out and pumped the tyres up!!

So another ride tomorrow, swimming Tuesday, band practice Wednesday, possibly, just possibly might go to the training run on Thursday then a ride on either Saturday or Sunday.......

Hmmmmm beginning to feel focus coming out!

A little splash.....

I guess things are beginning to happen albeit in a small way. I mentioned before I had joined the Rugby Tri Athlon club, but never attended a session, as indeed didn't do any training.

Well that has now officially changed...... I posted on their Facebook site, and received overwhelming posts of encouragement and support..... So I took my sorry fat arse, which has now had two cycle rides this week, and took the plunge in the swimming pool. Ably coached by Jill, I took to the water, it was hard due to both fitness and technique, but I could feel progress during the night and also did 14 lengths in total (big pauses at the end mind) which I would not have done on my own.

So I will deffo go back, I've got some training plans brewing but my huge concern on swimming have started to be tackled.... lets see where this can get......
