What a great day it's been

The suns shone here all day, but the winds been blowing a #*!$#@$

I'm on holiday this week and so are the kids, up here in Scotland. I went out for a bike ride today with my 13yr old son, he rode my old road bike. This was his first attempt at riding it, as up until now he's been riding a mountain bike. I couldn't get him to come back in the house He loved it.

We did a 1hr ride around about the local area. 14 miles, my Avg HR: 122bpm.

Tomorrow's a planned 30min run. We'll be doing that together too, but as usual I wont be able to keep up with him.

Isn't it funny how I hate being beat at anything sportswise, but with my son, It makes me happy to lose to him :)

I'm not sure where the last 12 months have gone.
The 11th July is when I last posted. I can't believe that :?
My old body acting up has wiped 12 months from my training plan - yet again!
But now I'm fixed and up and running again, so...

Where did that weather come from?

I went out for my planned 30min run last night and couldn't believe the number of trees and branches lying out on the country roads.
My original plan was scuppered as the route I normally take is along a stretch of road that's lined by big old trees.
No fecking way was I running along there, last night, as half of them appeared to be lying on the road.
Turned around and ran along a nice open road instead
The reason for the VERY LOW HR is due to being on beta blockers for the symptoms of an overactive thyroid, diagnosed about 2 months ago. Now getting this under control so should be stopping the beta blockers any day now

Well i thought i'd go out for a good walk tonight with our 11 month old dog. I wore my new Forerunner 305. Thought i'd better start using it.
Total distance 4.5 miles. Avg HR: 102bpm. Time: 1hr 12mins.
I know it's not real (real) training, but for me it's a start.

Tomorrow i'm planning on doing a bike ride of about 30mins.

Went to see the consultant at my local hospital today. She brought up my blood results which showed my Thyroxin levels almost back to normal. I've to carry on taking the medication (Carbimazol) but can now start training again.

She told me to take it easy to start with
WoW. What a turbulent 12months it's been. Diagnosed with cancer last June, followed by 6 months of Chemo. Given the all clear in February. Diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in April, now got that (almost) under control.

Got back and went away again

What's happenening to this old body?

I'd been having the classic symptoms of hyperthyroidism for a couple of years, but it had gradually creeped up on me and slowly gotten worse without me being aware of it.

Then about 6 weeks ago i was out for a Sunday bike ride when my heart rate starting going "up and up." My Max HR on the bike is 170. This time it went up to 194 and stayed there for a good 5 minutes after i'd stopped. A number of the other symptoms were present too, like sweating at the slightest effort and really sore and stiff leg muscles and a resting heart rate of 102

The heart rate thing on the bike gave me a bit of a fright. I thought i was about to have heart failure. Went along to see my gp, had an ecg and blood test. Result: Overactive Thyroid.

I was then started on propranolol for the symptoms and carbimazol for the overactive thyroid. I've now been on the carbimazol for 4 weeks and the symptoms have practically gone. I've got an appointment with an Edocrinologist Mon 8th June, but have been told to do NO strenuous exercise until it's under control. Walking's allowed. So that's what i will be starting tonight. Talk about a boring Blog. But then again, i think i'll take my camera out with me
